Things to Do in Ghardaia: attractions to See in Ghardaia

Ghardaia: Attractions and more...

In the centre of Ghardaia is its beautiful souk or market square. It is famous for its carpet stores and daily market.

The old underground mosque in Ghardaia is an architectural wonder. Built underground to shelter worshipers from the harsh heat, these structures are truly unique and worth a visit.
The Beni Isguen is the religious fulcrum of the valley; however, it should be kept in mind that foreigners are not allowed at the site without a local guide, and entry on Fridays is prohibited.

Ghardaia gets its name from the holy site it circles. The town was built around a cave said to shelter the female Saint Daia; therefore, it is named Ghar Daïa, or the cave of Daïa. This cave is venerated by Mozabite women to date.
