The Casbah of Algiers is a showcase of the medieval living and structures.

The area is small with a population of around 100,000 people representing a long history of Algerian independence. There are about 100,000 buildings for about 6,000 families. These houses date back to the colonial days and many structures depict ancient local style architecture.

Earlier tourists were advised not to come to the Casbah as it was occupied by a disillusioned and fragile terrorist organization. Recently, the area was opened to foreign visitors who can now visit the small lanes of the town.

The area is surrounded by Greek style columns converted into restaurants and cafés, giving it a noteworthy view. Vast colonial warehouses have being converted into a modern shopping precinct for international brands and boutiques.

The most beautiful asset of the Casbah is the luring white sand coast at the bottom of where the area stands, tall up on the hill.
