Notre Dame d’ Afrique, Algiers, also known as ‘Our lady of Africa’, is located in the northern part of Algiers city along the Mediterranean Sea. The monument was erected in 1872 and designed by the famous architect Fromageau. The structure is a blend of Roman and Byzantine style that was predominantly in vogue in France.

The floor plan of the monument is created in such a way that the church choir is located towards the southeast side of the building instead of the usual east side. The structure stands on a 124m cliff that overlooks the Bay of Algiers and can be reached with the help of a cable car.

Notre Dame d’ Afrique is visited by almost all tourists visiting Algiers for its well crafted exteriors – as well as the interiors – throughout the year. The monument acquaints everyone with the rich history and cultural background of the people around the region which is cherished by everyone visiting this place.
