Be careful of the tourist traps in Algiers. Military equipment and personnel should not be photographed; hence visitors are advised not to photograph any governmental or military installations.
Travellers should have full supplies of petrol and water.
Travelling by road should be avoided, particularly after dark.
The amount displayed on the meter is the accurate fare, but there are extra charges after dark. Travellers are recommended not to use unlicensed taxis, as these are likely to be uninsured.
The acceptance of hospitality is an important a part of culture here, hence travellers should be courteous to locals. It is advised that women dress modestly.
Homosexuality is illegal and punishable by imprisonment.
