When in Algeria, take extra precaution when eating outside. The possibility of diarrhoea and food poisoning are high. It is advisable to get vaccinations against typhoid and hepatitis A and B before visiting. Also, although Algeria has plenty of basic health care facilities, it is preferable to get a health check done prior to your vacation.

When travelling to the rural areas, make sure to carry insect repellents and wear clothing that covers the entire body to avoid infestations. The water in Algeria is unsafe for drinking as well as swimming; ensure that you use disinfected or heated water.

Algeria is prone to terrorism; avoid areas such as Chlef, Ain Defla, Relizane, Laarba, Medea and Collo, especially in the evenings, and avoid any kind of travel at the night.

When in Algeria, respect the culture. Avoid drinking openly on the streets, steer clear of any conversation on politics and never photograph military installations and personnel.
