Taghit is an oasis town in south-western Algeria. It has a population of approximately 8 000 people.
Located at west of the Grand Erg Occidental (the Big western Dunes), Taghit experiences an arid climate, influenced by the Sahara.
The desert town draws a lot of tourists. Needless to say, the Taghit economy is based on tourism and agriculture.
The local population here is mainly of Berber origins.
