A unique feature of the city is its motorcycle-taxis. Known as Zemidjans they are the fastest way around.
The Boulevard St. Michel is the heart of the city. Here you’ll find the Artisanal Center, a display of Benin’s traditional and modern art, the Marché Dantokpa, one of the largest open-air markets in West Africa; you’ll find everything you need here, from fruits and clothes to medicines and even an intriguing little fetish market. You can also visit the Cotonou Cathedral and the Cotonou Central Mosque.
Cotonou has a beautiful coastline. The most famous beach here is the Fidjrosse beach. Dotted with little cafes and inns, it is a nice place to catch some sun.
Cotonou hosts a celebrated West African band/singer at the Stade de l'Amitié every few months; this celebration of West African art and spirit draws in huge crowds and is quite an experience.
