Bamenda: Attractions and more...
Known as the gateway to the highlands, the city offers an interesting Ring Road tour around a 367 km circular route, through Bamenda’s mountainous terrain. Sites on the way include Mount Oku, the Kimbi River Game Reserve and the Menchum River Water Fall. Dotted with tea plantations, it is also ideal for hiking.
Also on the route is a glimpse of the local history and culture; the pyramidal thatched shrine at Akum, the museum of Makon Fon’s (Chief’s) Palace, and ancient architectural structures at the Bali Fon’s Palace and at the Chief’s palace at Bafut.
For souvenir hunters, handicraft shops can be found all across the market place.
