Christian festivals include Christmas, Easter and the Holy Week. 1 October is celebrated as Unification Day to commemorate the merger of British Cameroon to form the United Republic of Cameroon.
Traditional sports include canoe racing, and wrestling which is an integral part of the Bakweri culture. Several runners participate in the 40 km Mount Cameroon Race of Hope each year. An international marathon is held every year at Le Dent de Midnif, a huge rock which is highly regarded for rock climbing.
