Cameroon celebrates the Christian and Muslim holy festivals with equal frenzy and diligence. Muslim holy days of Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, and Eid Milad Nnabi are celebrated in different months based on the Islamic calendar. Christian festivals include Christmas, Easter and the Holy Week. 1 October is celebrated as Unification Day to commemorate the merger of British Cameroon to form the United Republic of Cameroon.

Traditional sports include canoe racing, and wrestling which is an integral part of the Bakweri culture. Several runners participate in the 40 km Mount Cameroon Race of Hope each year. An international marathon is held every year at Le Dent de Midnif, a huge rock which is highly regarded for rock climbing. Cameroon is a football-crazy nation; there are many amateur football clubs in the country.
