Boa Vista is the eastern most island in the Barlaventos archipelago of Cape Verde. Discovered on the 3rd of May, 1480, it was first inhabited in 1497. Today it is a desert town with a population of 3,353 inhabitants.
The climate is tropical and dry with a cool dry season from December to June and a warm season between July and November.
Traditionally agriculture was the mainstay of the economy, but with desertification of the island, salt collection and tourism are the main source of livelihood.
The majority of the population are the Mestiços, of mixed African and European heritage.
