Mindelo is a port city that is located in the northern part of the island of Vincente. This city is also the parish seat of Nossa Senhora da Luz. The city is supposed to be a significant nautical port and center for tourism, culture and history. The total population of the city was found to be 70,000 according to the 2005 census and is said to be a moderately populated city in Cape Verde. This city is surrounded by mountains. The temperature in the city varies from 18 degrees to 30 degrees at the sea level where the climate is wet and humid. The famous tanned mountain ranges of Monte Cara and Morro Branco lie near this city. This city also has fresh water resources in the form of the Ribeira River. The major economy producing occupations here include travel and tourism, transportation and also agriculture. Above 90% of the total population of the island lives here. The city is well known for its carnival celebrations.
