Pompey’s Pillar is 25m red Aswan granite column with a circumference of 9m. It was constructed in honor of the Emperor Diocletain. It was once a magnificent structure that rivaled the Caesareum and the Soma. It is believed that Pompey was murdered in 48 BC and must be buried here. This pillar is known as the tallest ancient monument in Alexandria.
