The recent history of Egypt means that it will be one of the most fascinating destinations for the intrepid tourist in the next few years. When you add to this the pulling power of the ancient Egyptian empire and all that we can learn through that about the history of the world never mind this fascinating corner of it, you have to ask, why are we all not going there?
The Capital Cairo is one of the most densely populated places on earth, not just in terms of culture and history! I imagine that most visitors with an eye to recent political changes will head immediately to the focal point, Tahir (Liberation) Square. Founded in the 19th century it is faced by some of the most interesting buildings in the city including the Egyptian museum and the Arab league building. The Coptic district houses a large amount of ancient churches and is fascinating. And or course there is nothing like standing at the base of the pyramids rapt in wonder at their age and magnificence.
