Almost all economic activity is centred around the Nile river valley. The main sectors of the economy are agriculture, petroleum exports, and tourism. About 40% of Egypt’s workers are engaged in farming; cotton is the principal crop. Petroleum and natural gas are mainly found in the Gulf of Suez.
The average daily cost of living for a tourist ranges from 100 EGP to 250 EGP. Food is inexpensive. Buses are the most economical way for a tourist to travel around Egypt.
