Egyptian cuisine is a veritable melting-pot of Greek, Turkish and Lebanese cuisines. The dishes are generally hearty, simple and not too spicy. Bread or aysh and beans are two staples of the Egyptian diet. Grilled chicken and kofta (prepared from ground and flavoured lamb) are popular delicacies. Besides, a variety of fruit and desserts can be savoured. Drinking of coffee is a national tradition; delicious fresh fruit juices are available at stalls throughout Egypt.
