Modern hospitals are found all over the country, both in the private and governmental sectors. However, tourists are advised to seek a private hospital. Typhoid, yellow fever and Hepatitis A vaccinations are recommended before visiting Egypt. In order to avoid diarrhoea, make sure to consume only cooked food and bottled water. Also, stock up on insect repellent as mosquitoes can prove to be a menace. It is also important to drink plenty of water and sit in the shade to prevent a heatstroke or dehydration.

In recent years, terrorism has proved to be a growing threat in Egypt. Red Sea resorts on the Sinai Peninsula have particularly been targeted. Tourists should be vigilant in public places and avoid public gatherings and political demonstrations. When in Egypt, respect the local customs. Dress modestly, and do not photograph any military installations.
