Hurghada is a popular holiday place situated on the shores of the Red Sea that attracts many tourists from different countries each year. Hurghada has grown over the years and transformed to be the second largest tourist area in Egypt. With crystal clear waters, historical delights, desert sands and year round sunshine has made the city a favorite among tourists.

A holiday in Hurghada is not complete without a visit to the monastery of St Anthony and was named after the father of Christian monasticism. About 70 monks live in the monastery and it is open for visitors from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm. The monastery is known for its striking wall paintings of various styles and the library hold’s ancient handwritten manuscripts.

In the scorched desert between the Red Sea and the Nile lies the fascinating ruin of a Roman settlement called Mons Claudianus. For over two centuries, Mons Claudianus used the neighboring mountains to produce high quality columns and building blocks for the beautification purposes. The Monastery of St Paul is also quite popular among the tourists that houses illustrated manuscripts. The monastery is also known for the colorful wall paintings, freshwater springs and altars with candles.
