The new Marsa Alam International Airport is a privately owned and operated international commercial airport. This is the first airport in Egypt in aviation history that operates under a complete BOT system. This airport got officially opened in 2001 and was inaugurated in 2003 by President Mubarak. Due to this airport, there has been a global gateway to the new resorts which are situated on the South Red Sea.
