The Gambia is a lower income country with a primarily agricultural economy. Groundnuts account for half of the total exports; cotton and citrus fruits are the other major exports. Gambia has very little mineral wealth and other natural resources. The population mostly thrives on crops and livestock.
The average daily budget for a tourist in Gambia is about 1,000 D to 2,000 D. Travelling in a yellow regular cab is much cheaper than the green ones meant for tourists.
