The Freedom Garden is an important landmark in Janjanbureh. Tourists and students alike visit the place to learn more about the country’s past, the struggles of slavery and freedom from it.
Visit the historical Wooden House of the MacCarthy Island. It is supposedly the first house that was built in 1832 when the first 200 liberated slaves arrived.
Take a trip to the River Gambia National Park. You are likely to see baboons, monkeys, hippos and even the Nile crocodile. There also is the protected Baboon Islands along the way.
Janjanbureh is fast gaining recognition for its fresh water regions of the Gambia river. These are rapidly becoming the new destination for travelling Sport Fisherman. With its unspoilt rivers, the catch here is always promising.
The region has the largest concentration of Stone Circles and shell mounds in the Gambia. The most famous of the Stone Circles, the Wassu Circle, is located in the north bank of the division.
