The best time to travel in Gambia is from November to February, when the climate is cool and dry. Around this time of year, however, the dry, dusty harmattan winds blow off the Sahara. The peak tourist season lasts from October to April.

Public holidays in The Gambia include New Year’s Day, Easter, Labour Day and Christmas. Independence Day is celebrated on 18 February and the Anniversary of the Second Republic, on 22 July.
