Ghana has an agricultural economy, with cocoa as the main export. Gold and timber are the other main generators of foreign exchange. Its chief imports are capital equipment, petroleum and foodstuffs. Agriculture provides employment to 60% of the population. The country is rich in gold and industrial diamonds.
