Travelling to the country at this point is ill-advised as the security situation is fragile. Theft carried out by unemployed youth is common. Travellers are advised to maintain extreme caution and avoid carrying valuables along.

Côte d’Ivoire is a high-risk country for infectious diseases. The sanitation levels are low and health facilities are expensive. Hence, it is advisable to avoid food from roadside vendors as it could be contaminated. Avoid seafood as the waters are contaminated and it could lead to cholera, diarrhoea, hepatitis A and typhoid. Cases of malaria and yellow fever are high; getting vaccinated against yellow fever and hepatitis before visiting the country is highly advisable. A yellow fever vaccination is required from all travellers.  Avoiding mosquito bites is the best precaution against malaria; use of insect repellents, wearing long-sleeved and light-coloured clothes, and use of mosquito nets is advisable.
