Before travelling to Kenya, it is advisable to get a vaccination against polio, tetanus, yellow fever, typhoid, and hepatitis A. Also, carry anti-malaria medications and sun block. A complete health check-up prior to visit is recommended, and obtaining travel insurance is preferable.

The most common ailment is travellers’ diarrhoea; thus, is it advised that all travellers carry proper antibiotic medication along with them. However, these should be carried in their original package along with the prescription. Be careful while eating out and drink only bottled water.

Nairobi has a high crime rate, and travellers are advised to take necessary precautions. It is advisable to keep away from the areas bordering Sudan, Somalia and Ethiopia. Ongoing conflict in these countries has seen a rise in banditry and other crimes near the border. Also, be alert when travelling after dark; avoid carrying valuables on you or travelling alone at night.
