Coming this March the Kijani Kenya Trust will yet again be hosting the Kijani Kenya Music Festival – an annual international music and dance event held in Kenya, to raise money for Kijani’s projects which mainly focus on HIV/AIDS, environmental conservation and music education.
The idea started in 2004, when The Garden Opera Company from London staged a performance dubbed ‘Carmen Comes to Kenya’. Now in its fifth year, the festival has brought many famous international artists to Kenya and produced an assorted fusion of music and dance with Kenyan artists.
The Kijani Kenya Music Festival is the only musical and cultural event of its kind in Kenya. The Festival has grown in popularity and has become a calendar event that is held every year usually in late February to early March. The festival appeals to people of all ages and is usually structured as a two-stage event that begins in late February to early March with the second part taking place in early August.
