Nakuru is situated in Kenya 's Rift Valley province. With an estimated 300,000 inhabitants, it is the fourth largest urban centre in the country.
The city experiences a cool and hospitable climate. The dry season is from June-February with rains arriving from March-May. The best time to visit is from June-September.
The town started as a railway station on the Kenya-Uganda railway route. The name Nakuru is derived from the Maasai world - Nakurro , meaning a 'dusty place' .
Today Nakuru is a bustling city with a multi-ethnic population . Agriculture , manufacturing and tourism form the backbone of the local economy.
