Monrovia has a vibrant nightlife with dozens of crowded nightclubs, discos and bars open until the early hours. Providence Island has a bandstand and an amphitheatre where performances of traditional African music and dance are staged. Some tribes even put up performances for tourists and attending their ceremonies can give you an insight into their tradition.

Independence Day is celebrated on 26 July, while Unification and Integration Day is celebrated on 14 May to commemorate the National Unification Party. President Tubman’s Birthday, also known as Goodwill Day, is celebrated on 29 November. Liberia has close ties with the USA and honours the pioneers that came from there, on Pioneers’ Day. The army, navy and militia are honoured on Armed Forces Day. Christmas and Good Friday are given equal importance.
