Things to Do in Leptis magna: attractions to See in Leptis magna

Leptis magna: Attractions and more...

Leptis Magna is spread over a huge area; remains of all aspects of ancient Roman life can be found here. The Severan Arch, a huge archway, is one of the most striking landmarks of the city.

Like a typical Roman city this one too has a gigantic Amphitheatre with a seating capacity for hundreds; the horse-shoe shaped stadium faces a huge platform mounted with several towering columns. A figure carved out of stone, said to be that of Zeus’s son Pollox, stands on one side of the theatre.

The Palaestra, which probably served as a sports ground for the citizens, is spread over a large field encircled by columns with a large brick structure at one end.

Another typical Roman feature is the Hadrianic Bath—steps lead into these large rectangular pools; the area is surrounded by walls for privacy. The Severan Basilica made of red stone, and the Market with remains of a circular wall with arches, are other interesting places.
