Tolmeitha: Attractions and more...
Apart from offerings of beaches, waterfalls, caves and other natural attractions, Tolmeitha is home to the largest ancient cistern on the continent. The town also has a museum containing interesting depictions of lions and tigers. At Qasr Libya (located amidst the Jebel Akdar hills), one will come across the ruins of a Byzantine church and some enthralling floor mosaics among others.
Tolmeitha has been the site of various excavations; these include a Basilica that dates back as early as the fifth century, delicately carved statues, fountains and even a Hellenistic Palace.
Nearby attractions include the Roman ruins of Sabratha and Leptis Magna near the capital city Tripoli. Tourists can stay at the quaint Menara hotel or look out for accommodations and restaurants in the town of Al Marj (25 km out of Tolmeitha).
