The city is dotted with beautiful green squares, mosques, old colonial buildings and the historical Old Town Hall. The city also has a quaint Italian quarter which has great shops and restaurants.
The harbour area is particularly beautiful with a view of the old light house and a marina surrounded by cafes and coffee shops.
Explore the souks of Benghazi. They are open daily, but really come alive on Friday mornings, also head to the Funduq Market and the walled vegetable market to catch a glimpse of local life.
The Al Muntazah Park and Zoo is a popular local attraction as are the vast sunny beaches. Head out for a comfortable and relaxing day.
Benghazi is a good base to explore the Greek ruins in Cyrene and the Roman ruins along the coast. Take a desert excursion to Kufra and the lush Green Mountains near by.
