The city centre of Derna has been largely preserved in its traditional form; the Museum of Derna is worth a visit as it houses rooms and homes as they were centuries ago.
The cliffs along the beaches house caves which were popularly used as hideouts by Christians when they tried to escape from persecution by the law. Just outside the city is a waterfall, quite a unique topographical feature for this region. Wadi Derna, a dry river which is covered with vegetation is worth a visit.
Derna is a typical seaside resort town; it has nice sandy beaches and a small harbour which are great for catching some sun. It also has numerous cafes and restaurants and other recreational options along the beaches.
