Germa is known for the 2,000-year-old ruins, Garama, that stand just outside the village. The fort and some houses are ruins of the ancient city built during the reign of the Garamantian Empire. There are some newer ruins too. The Germa Museum contains artefacts, relics and other objects of historical importance.
Zinchecra, another archaeological site, is located atop a hill not much further away. It seems to have served as a burial site for the residents of the ancient city of Germa.
A spring that was probably the source of water for the ancient inhabitants still trickles into the village; salt beds have replaced the lakes that probably existed here centuries ago. Germa is more ideal for a day visit as it does not really have any established hotels; adventure lovers may look to camp in this region.
