Tourist Guide Shahat

Shahat, also known historically as Gorina, is a city in northern Libya. It is one of the biggest and most beautiful archaeological areas in the Green Mountains. The nearest airports are the Bonin International Airport (in Benghazi), the Sebha Airport and the Sirte Civil Airport.

Founded in 631 BC by Greek expatriates, the city lies on the ruins of Cyrene. It is classified as a World Heritage Site and is considered to be one of the most beautiful Greek vestiges in the world today. Shahat was also the most famous of the Pentapolis cities of the region.

The region experiences a temperate-Mediterranean climate, with cool winters and dry summers. Extreme weather conditions are to be expected due to the desert terrain.

With a population of Shahat of approximately 43,400, Shahat has been home to several Greek scholars and scientists.
