Tourist Guide Tukra
Tukra, or Teuchira as it was earlier known, is a historic city in the Green Mountains region of Libya.
Founded in 510 BC, it used to be a port city for the Greeks and later became of one of the five cities of the respected Pentapolis along with Cyrene, Apollonia, Berenice and Ptolemais (during the rule of Ptolemy the Great).
Tukra experiences hot, dry summers and cool winters. Precipitation is minimal during the year. During spring and autumn, the region is prone to Gibli (dusty desert winds that can raise the area’s temperatures to as high as 50 °C).
The population of the town is estimated to be 23,164. Local buses and taxis enable access to the city of Benghazi (about 75 km southwest of Tukra). Other nearby towns include Al Marj (25 km east) and Tolmeitha (35 km to the north-east).Explore map
