Madagascar’s economy is dependant on agriculture, especially on its coffee plantations. However, with large deposits of minerals and the recent discovery of oil, the Malagasy economy is expected to emerge stronger. Madagascar’s main exports are coffee, chromite, sapphires, textiles and cotton.
 

The average daily cost of living for a tourist is about 50 to 80€; an average meal costs anywhere between 2to 4€. The cheapest way to travel is by rickshaw and bush taxis.
