Tourist Guide Nosy be
Nosy Be is located north of Madagascar in the Mozambique Canal Waters. In the Malagasy language, Nosy Be means ‘big island’. It is the busiest tourist resort in Madagascar. The refreshing aroma of various trees like coffee, cocoa, cinnamon and vanilla, which are cultivated extensively, welcomes the tourists, giving the island the name ‘Nosy Mantira’, which means, the scented island.
The island is blessed with a tropical climate. Temperatures are pleasant all through the year, except in summer (December to February), when it gets uncomfortably hot and humid. It has a population of 60,000 inhabitants.
The first inhabitants of the place belonged to the Antankarana and Zafinofosty tribes. Later, they were joined by Comorians and Indians, followed by the Sakalava Tribe. Most of these ethnic groups still live on the island.
