The most historic site in the city is the Blantyre Mission. This is where the City first came into being. Other important landmarks are the Mandela House, one of the oldest buildings in Malawi and the March 3 House-- the base of Malawi's independence struggle.
The Chichiri Museum displays both the natural and cultural heritage of Malawi along with traditional dances and contemporary music. Don’t miss out on the National Museum, which has a fascinating collection of traditional weapons and artefacts.
Head to the Michiru Mountain Conservation. Comprising of a forest reserve, farming area and a nature reserve, it makes for a good day trip.
Near Blantyre is the Great Rift Valley and Shire River. Visit the Fisherman’s Rest, a nature reserve full of indigenous trees and wildlife along with a luxury lodge and cottage. Below the Lodge and Cottage is the charming Old Mill Tea House.
The best place to spend the evening in the city is The Blue Elephant - Bar & Restaurant. It is Blantyre’s most popular Pub, with local bands performing every Wednesday and Saturday nights.
