Lilongwe is the capital of Malawi. Situated on the shores of the Lilongwe River, the city has a population 597,619 inhabitants.
The city experiences a moderately warm climate with adequate rainfall. The average temperatures range from 17C-29C. The best time to visit is in the cooler months from May-August.
The city started as a small fishing village, today it is the second largest city in Malawi, and more significantly the capital.
The local population is Chewa, of Bantu origins.
