Kiffa is the capital of the Assaba Region and is located in south-central Mauritania, in Africa. The city is literally a crossroad of the country, as it is situated right in the heart of Mauritania and connects the eastern regions to the west as well as northern parts of the country to the south. It is easily accessible from any part of the country through buses and taxis.
The city is characterised by a tropical climate. Summers are extremely hot, with the temperatures rising up to 45°C. December and January are the ideal months to visit the place.
Kiffa is a large metropolis and is rapidly developing into an important urban centre. It is the second most populated city of the country.
