Pamplemousses: Attractions and more...
Pamplemousses may have a long name, but it attracts equally long lines of tourists. The most exciting tourist attraction of Pamplemousses is its 25 hectare botanical garden, which houses the giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies (the largest in the world) and the Talipot Palm (which waits for up to 50–60 years to blossom and dies soon after).
Visitors should also visit the L’Aventure Du Sucre (or Sugar Adventure), which is a large museum displaying the sugarcane heritage of Pamplemousses and Mauritian history in general.
The Chateau Mon Plaisir near the gardens is a perfect example of typical colonial architecture. For souvenir-hunting, you can head to the Village Boutik where you can find what you need, especially Pamplemousses’ trademark sugar.
Satisfy your hunger quotient with Indian chapattis/rotis (flat bread) with curries, tempting Rogai (a popular tomato-onion dish) or Gateaux Piments (chilli cakes).
