Mauritian cuisine is an interesting blend of French, Indian, Chinese and African styles. Local favourites include prawns in chilli sauce, octopus, fresh pineapple in chilli sauce and dholl puri (wheat pancakes stuffed with dholl and eaten with tomato sauce).
Try the local drink, Alouda, a tamarind juice, or opt for some fresh coconut milk. Another must have in Mauritius is the local beer. Try a pint of Phoenix, and you’ll fit right in with the rest of the crowd.
