Tourist Guide Moka
The town of Moka is the capital of Moka District in central Mauritius. Moka is significant because it is regarded as the main source of all Mauritian scholars, being home to the University of Mauritius and the internationally recognized Mahatma Gandhi Institute, set up to promote Indo-Mauritian culture. Moka is midway between the towns of Port Louis and Curepipe, and is connected by buses and taxis.
The climate in Moka is similar to that of the central plateau in general. On an average, the daytime temperature in the town is around 25°C. The region does not have well defined seasons; summer extends from November to March, and winter, from June to September each year.
The population in Moka District is estimated at about 75,000 people, with agriculture playing an important role in the economy.
