The two most popular tourist attractions of Moka are Le Reduit and Eureka House. Le Reduit (or the Refuge), located about a kilometre north of Moka, is an old governor’s mansion built in 1874. It is open to visitors for only two days in a year (once in the month of March, and then again in October) so make sure you plan your visit accordingly.
South of Moka is the equally impressive Eureka House, which was built in 1986. This superb colonial structure has 14 bedrooms, 109 doors and breathtaking gardens. There are also colonial-style showers, antique maps, music areas and a wonderful view of the valley.
When in Moka, also visit Domaine Les Pailles which is a 10-minute taxi ride from the city. It is a delightful cultural centre having horse-drawn carriages, train rides, a replica of an ancient ox-powered sugar mill, an herb garden and a natural spring. There is also a charming riding centre nearby called Les Ecuries Du Domaine.
