Tourist Guide Port louis
Port Louis, in East Falklands, is one of the oldest settlements on the islands. Originally founded as a French colony, it stands testimony to the various political conflicts of the time.
The population of Falkland Islands is about 2500 inhabitants, of which a majority reside in the capital city, Stanley. The remaining residents, approximately 200, live on the sheep farms scattered across the island.
Port Louis is characterised by a cold maritime climate. During the months of November to February the sun shines for over 6 hours a day; coupled with the presence of the hole in the ozone layer, it is advisable to always wear sunglasses and sunscreen
Witness to several political conflicts, in 1833, the British took charge of the settlement, and eventually, it became the quiet sheep farming settlement it is today.
