Port Mathurin is the capital city of the island of Rodrigues, Mauritius. The city gets its name from a French settler by the name of Mathurin Bréhinier. It lies on the north-coast of the Indian Ocean.
The climate of the Port Mathurin is pleasantly warm and considerably drier as compared to Mauritius. The temperatures average around 15°C in winters and 30°C during summers.
At present, the population of Port Mathurin is approximately 6,000 individuals.
Operating as the main harbour on the island, Port Mathurin is the centre for all economic activity on the island. It boasts of the only bus stop on the island. The main area of the city is occupied with administrative offices, banks and restaurants.
