Rose Hill is a large town and there is no shortage of restaurants, supermarkets or up-market shops. Take a relaxing stroll through the bewitching Balfour Gardens, or engage in extensive bargaining at the bustling Arab Town market, or head to the Town centre’s Bazaar where you can buy anything from Mauritian souvenirs to trendy outfits. If you’re lucky, you can catch a concert of Sega, the traditional and rhythmic Mauritian music, being played at an important town event.
Be sure to sample the specialties of Mauritian cuisine when visiting Rose Hill. The town offers some excellent Dhol Puri (Mauritian breads made from crushed lentils with tomato sauce and pickles), Camarons (fresh prawns in hot sauce) and Octopus sandwiches. Wash it all down with Alouda (a popular drink with almond and cold milk).
Close to Rose Hill is Quarte Bornes, a modern town famous for its Sunday Fair and its crowded beaches, which are well worth a visit.
