Tangier: Attractions and more...
The Medina (the old city) is a maze of narrow winding streets. At the Kasbah, you’ll find the Sultan's Palace; now a local museum; it displays Moroccan arts and crafts.
The Grand Socco or the market square is also in the Medina. This lively market is the best place to mingle with the locals and go souvenir hunting.
When in the Ville Nouvelle or the new town, visit the Place de France, a beautiful, small French square dotted with street cafes and eateries.
Visit the Mendoubia Gardens; the 800 year old banyan tree here attracts quite a crowd. Or make a trip to the archaeological site of the Caves of Hercules and the old Roman ruins at Cotta.
Tangier is known for its long sandy beaches. You can enjoy windsurfing and camel riding facilities here. During summer, the beach is dotted with cafes and beach bars, making for a relaxing atmosphere.
If you are interested in local cuisine, head to the Medina. For a more modern platter, step into the Ville Nouvelle.
