Ifrane is located in the Middle Atlas region in the central part of Morocco. This town with a population of approximately 12,000 inhabitants is located at an altitude of more than 1,600 m.
Its location amidst the mountains gives it a climate unique of Africa. Ifrane enjoys an Alpine climate cold, with snowfall from November to March and warm and pleasant summers.
The French decided to develop Ifrane as a ‘hill station’ in the early twentieth century during their colonisation of Morocco. Today, it is one of the rare ski resort towns in Africa, built along the European lines.
Ifrane is not a typical commercial ski resort, as it is still relatively unknown to tourists. But, lately a lot of vacation centres, guest houses etc have sprung up to serve the increasing numbers of visitors.
