El Kelaa is surrounded by several Kasbahs old towns of Morocco and ruined villages. The Route of a Thousand Kasbahs, an ancient caravan route, passes through this region. Some of the old houses, which were built of loam, still stand here and many are inhabited.
The Festival of the Pinks is held annually in the latter half of the month of May in the market place. The streets of the village are filled with people enjoying the dance, music and the shopping at the various stalls that spring up here at this time. The event culminates with the crowning of the rose queen.
Ouarzazate which is home to the renowned kasbah of Taourirt is in the vicinity. This city is very popular with visitors and is thus well equipped with the required amenities.
