Spanish and Arabic influence is evident in the structures around this quiet city. The Old City is a maze of narrow brick lanes flanked by quaint whitewashed houses and shops. At the edge of the old city is the oval shaped town centre, the Place de la Liberation. In the centre is a palm garden and all around the streets are dotted with cafes and restaurants.

The Old Prison now houses an archaeological museum with a small display dating from the Roman era. The Stork’s Castle is a part of an old Spanish fortress and is surrounded by some picturesque gardens. The Fort of Small Domes, practically entirely in ruins, and the Spanish Cemetery are both perched atop the cliffs.

The coast is lined with towering craggy cliffs rising steeply. Though not very well kept, once you find a clean area the view of the oceans and the rugged coastline is beautiful. The waters are a little dangerous but the beach is well maintained.
